Fragments is the first personal release/work of Spyros Emmanouilidis.
Fragments started as an idea of creating a composition using old vinyl records that previously belonged to the Emmanouilidis’ personal family collection and combine them with his own recordings. Fragments are connecting elements of his musical memories to those of his contemporary life as a composer. Multiple fragments of recorded material and sampled vinyl records were used to shape new musical forms.
Each side of the cassette consists of four compositions that conjoin samples with field recordings, analog sources, and musical instruments. Emmanouilidis' compositional method varies in sound and texture. Rhythmical structures with different time signatures fade into abstract ambiances and dub oriented soundscapes.
Part of the original recorded material was used for Alexia's Falla 'Entropia' performance, presented in the 49th Dimitria in Thessaloniki (2014) and Mediterranea 17 - Young Artist Biennale in Milano (2015).
